The third River Rocks event was hosted by UWE in Bristol. Their pre-GFW party BABA, was held at boat-turned-club Thekla.
We arrived at Thekla and were greeted by a gaggle of circus performers (Bristol’s famous for its circus acts don’t you know) and live graffiti artists who were making sure the waiting students were kept amused whilst queuing to board ship.
Once on board we grabbed a cider (in true Bristol tradition) and headed over to the styling booth where Joanna Valmai Wills, Glamour Magazine’s stylist of the year 2009, was styling up a storm for some very lucky students. With Joanna’s help they all left the booth in ship shape – pun intended!
After stopping by the face painters and checking out a few of the live acts, we made our way to the lower deck of the boat where the runway show was taking place.
As the catwalk show began, DJ Derek took to the stage (this guy is a bit of a Bristol legend, he’s 70 years old and plays nothing but reggae – seriously!) The models worked the UWE students’ designs trend-by-trend and if the crowds’ cheers were anything to go by, they LOVED the looks!
So the show was over which meant it was time for the UWE students (and their tutors it seems!) to let their hair down and enjoy some BABA time into the early hours. The boat was packed out; this was definitely the busiest of the River Rocks events – clearly nobody wanted to jump ship, geddit?!

said: ahhh...yes..this was an amazing party!!!..the girls worked so hard and obviously...life can never be boring on a boat!!...classic bristol...i think the best bit was dj derek on the mic during the fashion show...amazing!!

Due to the success of the night the organisers have desided to make it an anual event in freshers week. Which will be muchly anticipated once again. UWE to win ! ! !

It has to have been a best night out in bristol, the boat added of quirkyness and character to the night. River island style booth was a great idea we have some lovely photos and some even better memories. Bristol seems to be leaps and bounds ahead of the rest of them.
