As part of our Christmas Salon Show we previewed River Island pieces that were created by two of our favourite upcoming designers, Nabil el Nayal and Hannah Taylor. Both Nabil and Hannah came through Graduate Fashion Week, which we have sponsored for the last five years.
We first met Nabil when he won the GFW Womenswear Award in 2008 and he has now designed a collection of dresses for the River Island Christmas collection. His futuristic yet gothic-glam dresses are definite show stoppers and are perfect for the party season.
At 2009’s GFW, we were introduced to Hannah whose oversized retro knits caught the eyes of the judging panel and gained her special recognition in the Pringle of Scotland Visionary Knitwear Award. Since then, we have commissioned Hannah to produce more knits for our Christmas collection.
Both Nabil and Hannah’s designs will be on sale in River Island stores and online in the coming weeks. Watch this space…
So yesterday it was time for the night we’d all been waiting for. Yep, it was Gala Show night and, transport issues aside, the London fash pack, including Claudia Schiffer, Erin O'Connor, John Rocha and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, turned out in their droves to see the hottest graduate fashion collections of the week and to check out THE designers who are set to be the future of British fashion.
Caryn Franklin was our wonderful hostess for the evening and she kicked off the proceedings by introducing the shortlisted collections for the Gala Awards…
